The Librarian – Community Engagement and Resources of the Learning Resources Center will support digital learning services, aid in student success initiatives and provide outreach resources and events to meet the needs of the community. The nation’s most prestigious recognition of Community College Excellence, the Aspen Institute’s Aspen Prize, awarded Odessa College its Rising Star Award in 2017 and 2019, which ranks Odessa College among the top ten in the nation for improving and advancing student achievement out of 1100 eligible institutions.
Specific Position Duties
Catalog and classify all LRC instructional materials according to RDA, AACR2, USMARC standards for bibliographic data, DDC23, and LC Subject Cataloging policies; Maintain accuracy and integrity of the online catalog; Administer the SIRSI library automation system, work with IT Dept. to launch upgrades; Assist with LRC material selection and deselection; Create strategies for the preservation and dissemination of digital archival materials, evaluate the feasibility of implementing new versions of digital platforms, and provide recommendations for the use and distribution of open-access textbooks and open educational resources; Provide backup for circulation and SIRSI management and coordinate with OC faculty on collection development inclusive of Open Education Resources (OER) and “Textbook-less” materials; Respond to reference questions from the Odessa College community; Teach Super Search introductory, advanced, and specialized class sessions remotely. Assist Executive Director with library site visits to evaluate space, collection, resources and technology; Assist with and lead projects in support of the LRC department strategic plan; Coordinate with Executive Director in annual budget creation, justification, purchasing, and reconciliation; Perform other duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
1. Master of Library Science, Master of Library and Information Science, or related field required; 2. Engaging for audiences through events, workshops, and instructional sessions; 3. Strong interpersonal communication and writing skills; 4. Able to produce effectively under tight deadlines on multiple projects; 5. An enthusiasm for learning and ability to engage others in utilizing the educational resources available through the Learning Resources Center.
